You need to make sure that you read the label on the food that you are getting for your cat. Although it may seem strange because you can is a pet, their nutrition is still just as important as yours is which is why you should read the ingredients so that you are aware of what is in the food you are giving your cat. You also need to pay attention to what formula of cat food that you are purchasing. They have food for adult cats, kittens, aging cats, cats on diets, and everything in between. Just as humans eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at certain times, so should your cat. Of course this might not be quite so easy if you are away from the hose during the day, but there is a solution. If the cat is eating dry cat food you can simply put the entire days ration into the food bowl and your cat can eat from it throughout the day.

If you aren’t sure you want to put it all in, you can choose to be half of it in the bowl. It’s really up to you and your schedule as to what a regular and convenient feeding schedule will be, but it is wise to get a regular pattern started. Again a good tip for any animal, don’t give your cat leftovers from the table. Although you think that you are doing them a favor by giving them a treat, you could be making a bigger problem when your cat begins to avoid their cat food.

Cats can’t eat two foods in particular, the first being chocolate and the second being onions. Both of these foods are considered a toxic food to your cat.

Flea and Tick Preventative Medication

Many cat owners neglect the need to purchase flea and tick products to protect their cats. The news flash doesn’t come through until the owner’s home is overrun with fleas or other creepy pests! Head off this problem by getting the right cat supplies in advance.

It’s not a dire requirement that you buy your cat toys, but a cat owner who cares about the social behavior and activity level of his cat will understand that recreational items are more of a necessity than an option. A happy cat is active and curious. There are a variety of cat toys that your cat will love, and some that he or she will probably just sit and look at.

The best toys give your cat a sense of accomplishment. Cats like to conquer their “prey” in order to feel contented. A few popular toys are wands, danglers, and devices that make your cat go on the chase. Purchase plenty of toys to keep the cat occupied. You can also make homemade toys, like “catnip in a sock,” run around your house with an iron cord hanging (it looks like a mouse to a cat) or dangle strings of yarn from doors.

Scratching Posts

Finally, if you like the way your couch looks now (you know, the non-shredded look) you will make room in your home for a scratching post. Cats need to stretch and sharpen their claws frequently, and they tend to do so on furniture and carpet. A scratching post will give your cat an alternative surface to dig his claws into. There are scratching posts that double as fun toys, like spinning posts that have dangling objects, or apparatuses with compartments that your cat can hide in (like a jungle gym).

Cats are private animals and want privacy when using their litter box. Here you would put the litter box in a quiet low traffic area. It’s important to keep the litter box clean as well. No one likes to use a dirty toilet. Another reason a cat won’t use their litter box is because it’s shared with another cat. They want their own space and will find a place to eliminate where they’ll get privacy.

What do you do if your cat is scratching up your home. You need to know that your cat scratches out of naturaly instinct. This is not something that can or should be stopped. Your cat scratching to groom their nails, relieve stress, and mark their territoy. The only ways to stop cat scratching is to buy a something that is ok for them to scratch on and praise them for using it. To encourage your cat to use the scratching post or whatever you decide to buy them rub a little catnip on it. They’ll get in the habit of using the post and leave your stuff alone.

To have a healthy relationship with your cat avoid punishment at all costs, and remember they love attention. Popular belief is that cat are anit-social nothing cat be further from the truth. They are just independent. Cat’s will do anything for a little attention just make sure to give to them when they are not misbehaving or you will reinforce that bad behavior with a pleasant association. An important note to remember is to take your cat to the vet before you decide their bad habit is a behavioral problem. They may be ill and need medical attention and that’s why they are acting out.

How To Stop Cat Biting

Cat biting is another one of the most common behavior issues that people have with cats. Aggressiveness comes naturally to them but if we are to live together in harmony, we must employ ways to curb this instinctual behavior.

Cats bite for two primary reasons: over stimulation and play aggression.

Stop Cat Biting Due To Over Stimulation
Picture this scene… You are relaxing on your couch, gently stroking your purring feline friend while thinking, “life is good!” Suddenly, your cat’s head whips around and she plunges her fangs into your arm’s tender flesh!!! What the heck??! You shake your fist at the heavens, exclaiming, “Will someone please show me how to stop cat biting!?!?! This is an example of over stimulation triggering an attack and yes. This article can show you how to stop cat biting.

Keep this in mind: If you dont exert dominance, your cat will continuously battle you for it. The reason the biting occurs when you are petting your cat is because your cat is attempting to basically take control of your relationship. The sudden biting is a way to dictate the petting schedule. By biting you, your cat is communicating, Im done with being pet now!

If your cat were out in nature and exhibited biting behavior, other cats would bite back. To stop cat-biting behavior, you need exert dominance and give your cat a reason to stop. Consistency is the key. Each time your cat tries to bite, even if in play, you must loudly and firmly command stop it! or no! After a while, your cat will understand the repercussions of aggressive behavior and stop biting.

A cats mouth contains bacteria that can cause infection. Their sharp teeth are designed to puncture the skin and can cause tissue damage. A serious bite can send you to the doctor so it is important that you watch for the warning signs that your cat about to bite. If you are consistent with the training, eventually your cat will learn not to bite but in the meantime you should be practical and learn the signs of a pending biting attack and protect yourself.

These signals can include tail twitching and body tensing. If this happens, you may want to stop petting your cat or cease whatever behavior is provoking your cat.

Stop Cat Biting Due To Play Aggression
When a kitten is with it’s mother in the litter, play behavior includes biting and scratching. The mother will allow this kind of play and encourage it to the point where it becomes actually painful to herself and her other kittens. The feline mother herself will essentially socialize her kittens by teaching the difference between play fighting and real fighting.

If a kitten becomes too aggressive, its mother will correct him or her with a swat. I have even witnessed a mother cat place her paws on her kitten and immobilize it – sort of like a kitten “time out.” This was very cute to witness, but it also gave me an idea about training my own cats to stop their own biting and/or aggressive behavior. Obviously, the best-case scenario is to start when they are kittens because when the cat is grown, unwanted behaviors like biting are an extremely hard habit to break.
When your cat exhibits biting or aggressive behavior, roll it on its back and gently hold him or her immobile until he or she calms down. While you do that, use verbal cues to indication that the behavior is not to be tolerated. I used a very commanding, “stop it!” when my kittens were being trained not to bite. Placing the kitten on it’s back is putting it in a very vulnerable position. By doing this, you are also teaching your kitten to trust and respect you. NEVER intentionally hurt your kitten or cat. This will destroy trust and your relationship will be continuously problematic. You must exercise restraint and compassion while taking your rightful place as the Alpha in your domestic pride.
Your goal is to essentially take the roll of firm, yet loving, parent in your cat’s life. If your cat learns to see you in that roll, your bond will be unbreakable and you will have cats that people with unruly cats truly envy.

How to Stop Cat Biting, continued…
As we discussed above, kittens engage in naturally aggressive play that includes biting. When your kittens are cute and little. it is tempting to take your hands, wrestle with them, and encourage them to “attack.” This kind of play must be avoided if you want to a cat that doesnt bite. When you play with a kitten in that fashion, it starts to see your hand as a giant plaything and something to attack. This may be fine when the kitten is small and its bites arent as intimidating but eventually, that cute little kitten will be a full-grown cat with full-grown fangs! At that point, if your cat is still seeing your hand as something to attack, you will literally feel the pain of that mistake for a long time!

Use Toys to Stop Cat Biting
It is imperative that you train your cat not to see your hand as a plaything. To this end, cat toys are essential. It is crucial when playing with your kitten to put the focus on a toy, rather than your hand. A fishing-pole toy is extremely helpful with this because it puts a safe distance between your hands and your cat’s fangs. It also helps teach your cat what is acceptable to bite. You don’t have to deny yourself the joy of playing with and enjoying your kitten or cat… you just have to change the tactics of play.
Another thing to remember in the “stop cat biting” training process is that when your kitten or cat does cross the line and get too aggressive, end the game immediately. A stern “no” or “stop it” helps identify what behaviors are discouraged. Be consistent and your pet will catch on

Dog Training – Dog No Command

The no command is a widely used command throughout dog training and is used to tell your dog not to do something or to stop them in their tracks to avoid dangerous situations or general bad behavior.

I think of the no command as more of a training technique rather than a command and to perfect the technique you will need to be consistent for most of your time with your pet dog. The no command isnt like other commands and is taught over several years rather than a learn it and forget it dog training technique.

You can start to teach your dog the no command as soon as you see your cute little puppy doing something wrong for the first time, to most people the command will come naturally when they see their dog causing terror in the house and it will not be too hard for them to remember how to execute the technique.

The no command should come part and parcel with punishing your dog, the idea behind the no command is to teach your dog that no means bad behavior and punishment, after teaching this command the end result will be that your dog should stop whatever they are doing when you say no.

So to make this command work you will need to enforce and recite no in a very assertive way whenever you are punishing your dog or see your dog behaving badly that will result in punishment. By doing this your dog will associate no! with being punished and making you the owner, unhappy.

If you do this consistently through your dogs earlier years, especially when your dog is a puppy and very impressionable you will gain respect from your dog and just saying no alone will be enough to stop your dog in its tracks and save you punishing your dog.
